| The goal of this committee is to assist Holy
Spirit parish to become and to maintain itself as a "Stewardship Parish"
in which the gifts of time, talent, and treasure are given back to God in gratitude for
His blessings and gifts to us.
It has been through
the efforts of the Stewardship Committee that more and more of our people have truly
become stewards. Not all of us have been gifted with economic wealth or job
security, but all of us have received specific gifts or talents that can be utilized in
the service of God and His people, the Church. The gift of ourselves is the best
gift we can give. Jesus told us if we really want to become the greatest in his
kingdom, we must be the best servant of all.
In regard to our treasure, a strict tithe is 10 percent.
A steward gives the first tenth to God right off the top. When one becomes a steward
of one's material resources or money, God gets His share first. It all came from God
as a gift. We give him a portion of what He has given us. It takes a
"leap of faith," a risk, to do this. However, when we take the leap, we
find that He provides for us and continues to bless and gift us.
The suggested gift or tithe is:
- 5 percent to the parish
- 1 percent to the archdiocese
- Remaining 4 percent to the charities of our choice
Annually the parish hears testimony to stewardship by one or
more parishioners who have taken the "leap of faith" and can honestly share
their faith journey with all of us. In addition, a "Ministry Fair," to
introduce us to the variety of ministries available, is conducted under the guidance of
this committee. The members of this committee meet regularly, pray hard, work hard,
believe in stewardship as a "way of life," and live it themselves. To be a
member of this committee, one must believe in and embrace stewardship.
