Stephen Ministry is a ministry of care extended to anyone in need or
experiencing a crisis. The Stephen Minister receives extensive training and
formation before selection and being commissioned to this ministry. The ministry is
one-to-one: A female Stephen Minister assigned to a female care receiver; a male
Stephen Minister assigned to a male care receiver. Only the principal Stephen Leader
and the Pastor have knowledge of who is assigned to whom. Confidentiality is the
hallmark of this ministry.
A Stephen Minister may commit to this ministry for a 2-year period of time. At
the conclusion of the 2 years of service, the Stephen Minister may either commit to
another 2-year period of service or take time off from this ministry.
The Stephen Minister commits to:
- A life of prayer and service
- Visit the assigned care receiver once a week for a period of one quality hour
- Join all the Stephen Ministers for a supervision and in-service session twice a month
for a 2-hour period of time
Stephen Ministry is a system of training and organizing lay persons for caring
ministry in and around their congregations.
Perhaps God is calling you to this ministry! If you feel called or require
