The proclamation of the Word of God is a special vocation. When
one proclaims the Word of God, he/she becomes the voice of the Lord as the inspired words
are vocalized and made to come to life. Therefore, the reader must initiate
preparation to proclaim at the earliest possible time in the week which precedes
proclamation. The scriptures become the foundation of the reader's prayer
life. One must:
- Read the scripture to ascertain what God is saying to the proclaimer. Then
comes the task of discovering the context and the people to whom the word was first
directed. For example, what is the emotional state - anger, joy, hope, etc., that
the author is trying to communicate?
- Practice the proclamation of the word audibly until it is just right. Remember
that the proclaimer becomes God's spokesperson to His assembled people.
