The requisites for a Communion Minister are:
- An active, practicing Catholic
- Has received all the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist)
- If married, the marriage has the blessing of the church
- Lives a model life in the community.
The names of those desirous of serving the community in this ministry are given by
the pastor to the archbishop in the month of October. All Communion Ministers are
commissioned in November at the principal mass on the Feast of Christ the King.
The term of service is for three years. If one desires to continue in this
ministry, he/she is to submit his/her name to the pastor no later than the first day of
October in the third year of their ministry.
Some Communion Ministers may be commissioned to bring the Eucharist to the sick
and the homebound. They may also be Communion Ministers at the sacred liturgy but
may feel a special call only to ministry to the sick or homebound.
Special training is required for the Communion Ministers at Sunday Mass and
for Communion Ministers to the sick or homebound.
